Empowering Women in Business on International Women’s Day

Introduction

Today is International Women’s Day, and the entire month of March is Women’s History Month. We have a lot of accomplishments to celebrate, and we shouldn’t have to wait for a special day on the calendar to do it. We are celebrating the successful businesswomen and female entrepreneurs worldwide, and here at Alibaba.com, we have a few of those women right here at home that we’d like to shine a spotlight on for making great accomplishments using our platform.

These three female Alibaba.com US success stories joined the increasing number of 1.24 million small businesses owned by women, and that number increases each year with more than 30% of small businesses today that are owned by women, according to the Census Bureau’s Annual Business Survey.

From life-changing beauty products to fashionable statement patches, here are three of Alibaba.com’s US women sellers that are living their ‘wildest’ dreams.

Angela Brown, Founder, D' Serv Healthy Hair Care

3-year seller on Alibaba.com, Memphis, Tennessee

Angela’s entrepreneurial journey with hair started when she was 15 and working in a salon. Now, in her fifties, she owns D’ Serv Healthy Hair Care, a line of hair products that help regrow hair.

After Angela had met a cancer patient at her salon, she decided to develop an exclusive line of hair products that would help her client grow her hair back that was lost during cancer treatments. This hair care line led her to accomplish dreams that she never thought were possible.

She took her family-owned hair care business global with the help of Alibaba.com’s seller platform. She can now reach customers in Africa, Germany, and in the UK. With her husband’s help running the business, she can do what she loves at work and still spend time with her beloved. She literally turned her passion for hair care into revenue, and shares her products with the world.

For three years, Toyiah has found her success on the Alibaba.com platform, scoring over 100 new wholesale buyers for her inspirational and fashionable clothing patches. Full of enthusiasm and charisma, Toyiah is very passionate about her patch and enamel pin business which celebrates Afrocentric culture through colorful and vibrant designs.

Before she started selling on Alibaba.com’s US seller platform, Toyiah was sourcing materials for her business from Alibaba.com, but was not aware she could sell her finished products to buyers around the globe. After she connected with the US-based support team, she was able to digitize her business to elevate Patch Party Club to the next level.

From the onboarding experience, Toyiah says, “The best thing that Alibaba does really is the support that you get because it’s a whole new world once you get on the platform. So, that really, to me, is one of the greatest assets to being on the platform.”

The business is run by Toyiah’s family members, especially her daughters who would love to follow in mom’s footsteps in harnessing their creative side to start their own businesses in the future.

Over 30 years ago, Restore Naturals Products was founded in Minnesota as a plant-based, biodegradable, non-toxic cleaning product manufacturer. These aspects attracted Kappa Cosmetics, and they acquired the brand to continue to bring the brand to light and reach customers all over the world.

Nicole Fadden, the Director of Marketing and Sales at Restore Naturals, explained that these products are great for sensitive skin and sustainable for our fragile planet Earth. The line of products includes hand and body soap, dish soap and spray cleaners for around the house. Even Kevin Harrington from Shark Tank boasts about the brand saying, “Restore Naturals has some of the most effective, eco-friendly cleaning products in the world. You’ve got to check them out!”

Nicole realized that the brand needed to make its way into more homes across the world, and figuring out how to do that was easy with Alibaba.com. She’s able to respond to inquiries from multiple countries and regions on the seller platform and uses the RFQ market to search for buyers who are sourcing products that are eco-friendly and natural, just like Restore Naturals offers.
